Letter from the Executive Director

This year's March for Meals Campaign was a huge success for Marion Senior Services! This program delivers so much more than just a meal: A well-being check, a friendly smile, and three very powerful words — “How are you?” — can make all the difference in the world to any individual.

Our mission this month was to bring awareness to our community on the topic of senior hunger, and share with you our client's stories. We visited with clients to learn their favorite part about receiving Meals on Wheels, and what the program means to them. Overwhelmingly, the feedback was not just about how valuable a hot and nutritious meal was to them, but about their delivery driver, and the companionship that a daily delivery offers. For many of our clients, their meal delivery driver may be the only person that they see all day. Drivers become like family to our clients, and vice versa. Please visit our Facebook page or Instagram account to watch these stories!

Companionship is so important, for all ages, but especially our seniors. Studies show that social isolation is equally as devastating to your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day! That is why our Meals on Wheels program is so important in our community. Marion Senior Services delivers 300+ meals daily. Unfortunately, we have 600+ individuals on our waitlists. We are working tirelessly to reduce these waitlists and expand services to more seniors. The support of our community partners, donors, and dedicated volunteers makes our efforts possible.

We look forward to continuing our work to reach more seniors every day and delivering meals with a smile!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Martinez, Executive Director
